I love this SO much! But I do notice a bit of using Malcolm X, portraits/ print media of Malcolm X. One must realize that Malcolm did not teach himself. If Malcom X is to be mentioned/ revered, then HIS teacher The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad must be mentioned/revered, and then HIS teacher Master Fard Muhammad must ALSO be mentioned revered. Aside from the "Arabism" of "Islam," if you strike that, these two Teachers/Messengers were right on point with the Black being the Original and who "devil" was/is; AND at a time in American history when an over-head word of this teaching could mean death itself. Thank you.

Medaase for this thoughtful critique. Your central point is that Malcolm X should be placed within the intellectual lineage that shaped him, even while you distinguish that lineage's religious framing from its teachings about Black identity. That historical framing deserves explicit discussion.
