Em 1961, em conformidade com as turbulências sociais da época, deixa a terra que o viu nascer e parte para uma nova vivência na cidade de Luanda. Não possuindo qualquer documento que comprovasse os seus estudos primários na então sanzala, cria condições na administração de Catete para a conclusão do ensino primário, que conclui em 1964. Depois decide aprender a profissão de bate-chapa, que exerceu até finais dos anos 70, chegando a atingir o grau de segundo chefe na secção de bate-chapa da Brigada de Construção Militar.Em 1980 ocupou o cargo de gerente num dos restaurantes da capital. É assim que ganha experiência em gestão hoteleira e neste mesmo ano funda o restaurante denominado Avó Kumbi, situado no Bairro do Golfe, que veio a ser o ponto de referência mais relevante do referido bairro. Ciente do seu dever como músico, em 1986 faz esforços e cria a casa de música Cantinho do Artista, que serviu de fonte de receitas para muitos artistas. Em 1993, tendo em conta a sua abnegada dedicação à cultura e à gastronomia, funda a feira Avó Kumbi, que posteriormente tomou o nome de Nova Vida e, um pouco depois, de Divórcio.No dia 17 de Setembro de 1997, Manuel Constantino “Nick” foi galardoado pelo então administrador municipal de “Rei da Música Tradicional”, dado o seu empenho pela música e cultura no município do Kilamba Kiaxi. ⁣

What is Black Power Cooperative Economics?

Black Power Cooperative Economics is a movement and strategy to gain control of the economics of our communities and nations through the implementation and proliferation of large-scale cooperatively owned business enterprises that are firmly rooted in our culture. The immediate benefits of such a strategy are the creation of many new jobs, the stimulation of business activity in local communities and the contribution to and support of crucial social institutions. Long-term, this strategy provides a realistic and proven way to build an Independent Black Economy; one that we can control and use to serve the fundamental needs and interest of our people worldwide.

ULU takes the strong position that significant economic advancement for our community is impossible with traditional entrepreneurship and business ownership alone. Radically different approaches are required. Large scale cooperatively owned enterprises in the context of “Black Power Cooperative Economics” adds the otherwise missing and vitally necessary element.

Millions of our people sincerely desire a stronger and more vibrant economic foundation for our communities. And there is widespread frustration with our failure to redirect and make better use of the large sums of economic resources that flow through our collective fingers.
