While President Traore has done so much to destroy French imperialist influence over Burkina Faso, the issue of the CFA Franc still remains. This colonial relic has for decades stunted the financial and monetary independence of Francophone Africa. However recent news indicates that Traore is on the verge of achieving true monetary independence for Burkina Faso. In a recent report, Burkina Faso is in the process of creating a new currency which they have named SIRA. Unlike the CFA Franc, SIRA will be fully controlled by the Burkinabe authorities.

This is is not a new phenomena and nor will it be, this is just the scandalous the sensationalism that sells and promotes and demonstrates their continuous influence within and outside of Africa. Widely exaggerated claims only serve to further taint the reputation of our Continent. The problem needs to be tackled in its Continent of origin in Europe. Do not let a targeted and premeditated media attacks dissuade you from coming home as I suspect that was the motive behind it. Lets stand strong and unite and not let anyone divide us. Omoyele Sowore is an activist, founder of Sahara Reporters (‘Africa’s Wikileaks’) and a former presidential candidate under Nigeria’s 🇳🇬African Action Congress Party. He was illegally arrested by Nigeria’s DSS in August 2019, released that same December and has been restricted to the capital ever since.
