Footage of a protest held outside the Belgian Embassy in Havana Cuba after news of the murder of Patrice Lumumba, the first Prime Minister of Congo, spread all over the world.

Lumumba had been killed in secret on January 17th by an execution squad commanded by a Belgian officer.

"Crowds including large numbers of students held a meeting outside the Belgian Embassy in Havana, Feb 16, in protest against the "brutal assassination of Congolese leader Patrice Lumumba".

Carrying flags and banners, the crowd shouted "Cuba Yes, Yankees No", "Congo Yes, Belgians No", Now more than ever the Congo is bound to win", and "Lumumba is dead but not his ideas".

Watched by police and militia, the demonstrators marched up and down the street in front of the Embassy. Time and again, groups stopped at the main gate to voice their protest, supporting the "Congolese people and all nations who are fighting for peace in the world", and condemning "Belgian and American imperialism".

In recent months, a clip of Amos Wilson has been doing the rounds as leaders & advocates of the #ADOS hashtag attempt to use his words to justify negative sentiments towards "Black Immigrants" to the USA.

We are all entitled to our Political Ideology. What we are not entitled to do is distort the legacies of our Ancestors. Our Ancestors deserve to be represented by us, for exactly what they stood for. The deliberate distortion of the legacy of our great #PanAfrikan Ancestor is unfortunate... and it must be corrected.

This clip is an attempt to put the legacy of Amos Wilson in proper context for those who may be new to his work.

For over 40 years, Dr. Oba T'Shaka has been a writer, teacher and master organizer in the Black Freedom Movement. For 38 years, Dr. T'Shaka was a Professor at San Francisco State University, where he is now Professor Emeritus. He lectured about his experiences with the 1960s San Francisco Civil Rights Movement. This event took place at Laney College, on July 8, 2014.
