Kombilesa Mí: Tiny Desk Meets globalFEST
Kombilesa Mí: Tiny Desk Meets globalFEST Baka Omubo 28 Views • 7 months ago

For the second consecutive year, NPR teamed up with globalFEST in January 2021 for a thrilling online music festival we call Tiny Desk Meets globalFEST: three nights, nine bands, and a world of musical traditions hosted by African pop star Angélique Kidjo. Now, we're posting all the sets from our festival as individual Tiny Desk (home) concerts.Bob Boilen | January 28, 2022Born from the rich musical and historical heritage of San Basilio de Palenque, Colombia (the first free Black town in the Americas), Kombilesa Mí fuses the traditional sounds of the community with urban pop. The band's members experiment with the instruments created by their ancestors (and introduced to them when they were young) by layering them between new sounds.Over traditional percussion, metal handmade drums of their own design, and marímbula, Kombilesa Mí rhymes and raps in Spanish and the traditional Palenquero language, a fusion of African Bantu, Portuguese, French and English. During the performance, you'll hear them call their music "RFP," which means Rap Folklórico Palenquero, a combo of cumbia, son de negro, mapalé and son palenquero. --The globalFEST staffSET LIST"I Tando Pa Palenge""I A Piyá Bó""Kumo Kusa Tá""Los Peinados""Asina Gue""Ma Nduse""Ata Uto Begá"MUSICIANSAndris Padilla Julio: vocalsKeila Regina Miranda Pérez (KR MP): vocalsAlí Fernando Navarro (MCPM): vocals, tambor alegreMartín Elias Maza: tambor llamadorKendri Cassiani: tamborasOrlys Reyes: marímbulaEdwin Valdes: maracasCREDITSProduction: Guillermo CamachoAudio: Fernando ManzurVideo: Guillermo CamachoCamera: Royman Reales MartinezSpecial thanks: Real Films Cartagena, Viviana Benitez, novaproduccionesTiny Desk Meets globalFESTTiny Desk TeamProducer: Bob BoilenVideo Producer: Maia SternAudio Mixing: Josh RogosinTiny Production Team: Bobby Carter, Kara Frame, Joshua Bryant, Sofie Hernandez-SimeonidisExecutive Producer: Keith JenkinsSenior VP, Programming: Anya GrundmannglobalFEST Artistic TeamCo-Directors: Shanta Thake, Isabel Soffer, Bill Bragin2022 Curators: Shanta Thake, Isabel Soffer, Bill Bragin, Gabrielle DavenportglobalFEST Production TeamEvent Producer: Ian ThakeProducer: THE OFFICE performing arts + film*Video Producer: Karim TabbaaSpecial ThanksThe Andrew W. ⁣WHAT IF AFRIKA MOVED AS ONE? 🔥 The Anthem of the United States of Afrika | For The Very First Time

⁣This is not just music.
This is a declaration!

Today, at the heart of a world that is going crazy, where sovereign leaders are being kidnapped right from their sovereign countries and wars being perpetrated through false pretence and condemnations, resulting in innocent human beings loosing their lives, we are taking our responsibility. We are calling for all our African leaders to make The United States of Afrika a reality.

So from today, March 4th (march forth) we are calling on all African consciences, whether at home or abroad to engage and ask our African leaders to STAND UP and DO THE RIGHT THING to save Africa and Africans from the madness and actual real threat to life anywhere on the planet,, let alone Africa.

So we here present an instrumental anthem — a proposed future national anthem for the upcoming United States of Afrika, that is now more than a must. IT IS URGENTLY A MUST!.

We have created an anthem, sound that represents OUR DEMANDS from all our African leaders:

We demand: (suggestion)

• One Nation
• One Economy
• One Passport
• One Army
• One Shared Currency
• One Voice in Global Policy
• One Flag
• One National Anthem
• Free Movement Across All Union States

Africa stands at a historic crossroads. With over 1.4 billion people, the youngest population in the world, and the largest emerging free trade zone under the African Continental Free Trade Area, the structural foundations for continental unity already exist.

The framework is present through the African Union.

What remains is collective will.

This instrumental piece is offered as an example — a sound that could one day represent a united, sovereign, powerful continental federation.

If you believe in:
A borderless Africa.
An economically integrated Africa.
A politically coordinated Africa.
A globally respected Africa.

Subscribe. Share. Participate.

Comment your country and write: ONE AFRICA.

The future is CONTINENTAL.
The time is NOW!

The Black Agenda Historic Diaspora Town Hall: Citizenship, Repatriation, and Self-Reparations
The Black Agenda Historic Diaspora Town Hall: Citizenship, Repatriation, and Self-Reparations Ọbádélé Kambon 28 Views • 5 months ago

Pan-African TV News ReportHistoric diasporans, scholars, and community leaders came together at the University of Ghana for a powerful town hall meeting on citizenship, repatriation, and the future of Black unity on the continent. Organized by The Black Agenda in collaboration with the Institute of African Studies, the gathering focused on one urgent question: how can historic diasporans return home and contribute fully if colonial-era barriers are still standing in the way?Speakers challenged the monetary and legal obstacles placed before historic diasporans seeking citizenship, arguing that these policies discourage return, block investment, and undermine the call for reconnection. The discussion also pushed beyond Ghana alone, calling for African leaders and continental institutions to take up the matter so that repatriation is treated not as an isolated national issue, but as a shared African responsibility. The event tied citizenship directly to reparative justice, self-reparations, and the right of scattered African descendants to come home without punishment, exclusion, or unnecessary burdens. The message was clear: the time has come for African laws and institutions to reflect the reality that Africa is one and indivisible, and that historic diasporans must be welcomed back in substance, not just in words.Hashtags:#repatriation #historicdiasporans #ghanacitizenship #blackagenda #universityofghana #reparativejustice #selfreparations #returntoafrica #blackunity #africaisone #diasporacitizenship #instituteofafricanstudies

Know Thyself, NOT in Greece First.
Know Thyself, NOT in Greece First. Baka Omubo 108 Views • 4 years ago

#know, #greekmythology, #plato , #socrates, #philosophy
When you ask many people, who taught know thyself first, you will get thousands and thousands of answers pointing to European Greek Philosophers. Then they point to the temple of Delphi where they say it is etched on stone! In all Honest Who coined the phrase know thyself?
Does it Matter? What do you benefit from it?
Africans were already civilised to the highest point hundreds of millions of years before European ancestors crawled on the earth. Would such an advanced society fail to think Philosophically? Black people were the only literate and civilised people in antiquity. If you do not point such timelines to the Greeks and others, they will steal everything! "Know thyself" is an ancient African precept, from the Temple of Luxor actually Wazoti. It was appropriated by a number of pre-Socratic Greek writers, whose thinking was heavily influenced by Egyptian civilisation; and afterwards, most famously, adopted by Plato, in several of his Socratic dialogues. Over two thousand years this African precept was borrowed without acknowledgment is now said to be of Greek origins. Find the benefits of knowing thyself and Re-claim YOUR Heritage from cultural thieves, then use it to Actualize yourself and
Transcend yourself so as to UNLEASH Your Potential in Creativity and Full Living.
Here is How…. skeleton with scythe, the inscription "gnothi seauton"— know thyself—is in Greek.
Roman, circa 1st century.
Mena: this is a black Roman skeleton
Interestingly, the skeleton reclines very much like a Roman dinner guest
