This is your Week 8 Igbo language practice session from Igbo Daily Drops — 15 sentences learnt over the past week in Igbo daily drops, built for real-life use. Commands, requests, questions, and the kind of warm, human phrases that make the difference between knowing a language and living in it.

Work through each sentence at your own pace. You will hear it once, then again — then it is your turn. The sentences this week move from ststing parts of your body, telling your body what to do and indicating when you are not feeling well.

The Igbo sentences we learnt this week are :

A hụrụ m ahụ m — I see my body

E nwere m isi — I have a head

E nwere m aka — I have a hand

Ahụ dị m mma — My body is well

Ahụ adịghị m mma — I am not well

Ike gwurụ m — My strength has run out / I am tired

Isi na-egbu m — My head hurts

Azụ na-egbu m — My back hurts

Biko, nyere m aka, ahụ na-egbu m — Please help me, my body hurts

A na m eji anya ele ihe — I am using my eyes to look at things

A na m eji aka arụ ọrụ — I am using my hands to work

A na m eji ụkwụ aga ije — I am using my legs to walk

According to them the poor level of training of the average Ghanaian construction worker coupled with their poor attitude to work can be blamed for the growing preference for specialised workers from countries like Togo and Nigeria.

Jim Baggott is an award-winning science writer. He trained as a scientist, completing a doctorate in chemical physics at the University of Oxford in the early 80s, before embarking on post-doctoral research studies at Oxford and at Stanford University in California.

He gave up a tenured lectureship at the University of Reading after five years in order to gain experience in the commercial world. He worked for Shell International Petroleum for 11 years before leaving to establish his own business consultancy and training practice. He won the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Marlow Medal for his contributions to scientific research in 1989.

McGee, PhD, of Vanderbilt University has spent more than a decade researching racialized experiences and racial stereotypes that adversely affect the education and career trajectories of underrepresented groups of color.
